First Congresswoman in US History Takes Her Seat

Sometimes referred to as the "Lady of the House," Jeannette Rankin was the first woman to be elected to the US House of Representatives and the first female member of Congress. Just days into her term, she drew the ire of the press by voting, along with 56 others, against the resolution to enter WWI. In 1940, Rankin was again elected to Congress and once again voted against entering a world war, thought this time she was the only Congress member to do so. What was the Jeanette Rankin Brigade?



The Monty Hall Problem

Named after the host of the game show Let's Make a Deal, the Monty Hall problem is a probability puzzle that has a history of stumping even respected mathematicians. According to the problem, a game show contestant is asked to choose one of three doors. There is a car behind one and goats behind the other two. He picks door 1, but the host, who knows what is behind each door, opens door 3 to reveal a goat. He then asks the player if he wants to switch to door 2. Should the player switch?
