The Bahamas Gain Independence from the British Commonwealth

A haven for pirates such as Blackbeard in the 17th century, the Bahamas became a British Crown Colony in 1717. After the American Revolution, it was settled by many Loyalists who brought with them slaves to labor on cotton plantations. Later, during the prohibition era in the US, the Bahamas became a base for rum-running. It did not become a sovereign state within the Commonwealth of Nations until 1973. What happened to the native tribe that Columbus first encountered there in 1492?

Tattoos are used by many criminals to show gang membership and mark their personal history, skills, and convictions. The system of Russian criminal tattoos is perhaps the most elaborate; both the symbols themselves and their locations on the body carry meaning. A crucifix worn on the chest, for example, signifies a "Prince of Thieves," the highest rank among criminals; butterflies signify an escape artist. What do snakes around the shoulders signify?
