Boston Massacre

The Boston Massacre was a pre-Revolutionary incident growing out of the resentment against the British troops sent to Boston to maintain order and to enforce the Townshend Acts. The troops, constantly tormented by gangs, fired into a rioting crowd and killed five men. The funeral of the victims was the occasion for a great patriot demonstration. The British captain, Thomas Preston, and his men were tried for murder, with Robert Treat Paine as prosecutor. Who served as a lawyer for the defense?

Rosa Luxemburg

Luxemburg was a Marxist political theorist and revolutionary in Germany during the early part of the 20th cent. She helped found the Polish Social Democratic Party and was a leader of the left wing of the German Social Democratic Party, where she collaborated with Karl Liebknecht in founding the Spartacus League in 1918. Imprisoned during WWI for opposing the continuation of the war, she was also critical of the decision to launch an uprising in November 1918. How did she die?
