Kyoto Protocol Comes into Force

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), or 1992 Earth Summit, produced a treaty aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but it failed to establish mandatory limits or enforcement provisions. The Kyoto Protocol is an amendment to the UNFCCC that establishes these limits. Countries that ratify this treaty promise to reduce their emissions of CO2 and five other greenhouse gases; otherwise, they promise to engage in emissions trading. Which countries have ratified it?

Bananas rank fourth after rice, wheat, and maize in human food production. Evidence suggests that bananas were cultivated in Asia at least as far back as 5000 BC, and Alexander the Great is said to have encountered them in India. Large international traffic of the banana began with the development of refrigerated transport in the 19th century. In what country has the banana plant been used for the production of high-quality textiles since the 13th century?
