First Mickey Mouse Comic Strip Released

Mickey Mouse's first incarnation of sorts was as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, created by Walt Disney for Universal Studios. When Disney was fired for asking for a bigger budget to produce Oswald cartoons, he created Mickey Mouse to keep his company afloat. Mickey was somewhat mischievous in early cartoons, but later evolved into a well-meaning Everyman. Today, Mickey is one of the most recognized symbols of American culture. Diamond Head, Hawaii

Diamond Head is part of the complex of cones, vents, and their associated eruption flows that are collectively known to geologists as the Honolulu Volcanic Series. Its English name was given by British sailors in the 19th century who mistook calcite crystals embedded in the rock for diamonds. The tuff cone's symmetrical shape is thought to be the result of the brevity of the volcanic eruption that formed it. Scientists don't believe that Diamond Head will erupt again; why?

Wilhelm Wien

Wien was a German physicist who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1911 for his work on heat radiation. In 1893, he used theories about heat and electromagnetism to compose Wien's Displacement Law, which relates the maximum emission of a blackbody to its temperature.
